Our Story
In 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown, rural families across eastern Democratic Republic of Congo faced severe food shortages. Market closures, loss of income, and limited access to seeds and tools left many households struggling to feed their families.
Witnessing these challenges firsthand, Safari Bahati Jean-Jacques founded Alphome Community Farms to respond to the urgent need for food security while protecting forests and natural resources.
What began as a community response to crisis quickly grew into a long-term vision for sustainable agriculture and climate resilience.Alphome was created to help communities produce food locally, adopt climate-smart farming practices, and reduce pressure on forests caused by unsustainable land use.
Today, Alphome works with farmers, youth, and women to strengthen livelihoods, protect ecosystems, and build resilient futures; ensuring that communities can withstand future shocks while caring for their environment.

About Us
Alphome Community Farms is a community-led organization based in the Democratic Republic of Congo, working to strengthen food security, protect forests, and empower local farmers, youth, and women.
We support communities through climate-smart agriculture, agroforestry, and environmental stewardship, helping people increase food production while safeguarding natural ecosystems. Our work is rooted in local leadership, practical training, and sustainable solutions that respond to real community needs.
By combining agriculture with forest protection and climate action, Alphome Community Farms is building resilient livelihoods and promoting long-term social, economic, and environmental sustainability across rural Congo.
Our Mission
Alphome Community Farms’ mission is to empower rural smallholder farmers, youth, and women in the Democratic Republic of Congo through climate-smart agriculture, agroforestry, and community-led environmental stewardship.
We work to strengthen food security, protect forests, and build resilient livelihoods that support long-term social, economic, and environmental sustainability.

Our Vision
Who We Are
Alphome Community Farms envisions thriving, resilient communities in the Democratic Republic of Congo where local farmers, youth, and women are empowered to lead sustainable agricultural development while protecting forests and the environment. Through community-led education, access to resources, and environmental stewardship, we aim to strengthen food security, promote climate resilience, and support a future where sustainable farming and forest protection go hand in hand.
Our Approach
Alphome Community Farms promotes climate-smart agriculture and agroforestry as practical pathways to increase food production while safeguarding natural ecosystems. We work closely with communities to combine local knowledge with sustainable practices that restore soils, protect forests, and build long-term resilience to climate change.
Together
Our commitment is to build resilient communities by empowering local farmers, youth, and women through sustainable practices and strong environmental stewardship. Together with our partners and communities, we work to protect natural resources while creating lasting opportunities for livelihoods and climate resilience.
Farming
We support smallholder farmers by providing them with sustainable farming practices that enhance crop yields, improve soil health, and make agriculture more resilient against climate change.
Forestry
Our initiatives focus on community-led forest monitoring and restoration, where we actively plant trees and reduce deforestation to protect vital ecosystems.
Empowerment
We provide skills training and leadership development specifically for youth and women to create green livelihood opportunities in rural areas.

Our Programs
Farming for a Brighter Future
We work with smallholder farmers, women, and youth in Haut‑Uele and South‑Kivu to build resilient, productive, and environmentally responsible farming systems.
Our farming program integrates climate‑smart agriculture, agroforestry, and community forest protection to increase food security while reducing pressure on Congo’s forests.

Defending Forests | Community-Led Forest Protection
We protect DR Congo’s forests by empowering local communities to monitor, manage, and defend their natural resources. Our forestry program combines satellite technology, community forest monitoring, and sustainable livelihoods to stop deforestation driven by artisanal mining, charcoal production, and illegal logging in Haut-Uele and South-Kivu.

Fighting Against Deforestation from Brick-Making
In many communities, trees are cut and burned to fire bricks, leading to the loss of forests and vital ecosystems. We work with local communities to reduce this pressure by promoting sustainable land use, alternative energy solutions, and forest protection.

Mining
We address deforestation caused by uncontrolled mining activities and unsustainable land use by working directly with farmers and youth as community forest monitors. Through training, local patrols, and the use of digital monitoring tools, we track forest loss, identify high-risk areas around mining sites, and promote sustainable farming practices that reduce pressure on forest land. By combining community action, data, and alternative livelihoods, we help protect Congo’s vital ecosystems while strengthening local resilience.

Deforestation Artisanal Mining
Addressing deforestation from artisanal mining through community monitoring and sustainable land use.

Charcoal
Fighting Against Charcoal-Driven Deforestation
Thousands of hectares of trees and primary forest are cleared each year for charcoal production. We work with communities to reduce dependence on charcoal by promoting sustainable land use, alternative livelihoods, and forest protection.
